Civil Air Patrol brings members from all Iowa to the annual Iowa Wing Conference

Cadets and Senior members undergo training and set goals for 2009

FAIRFAX , IA – Members from different regions of Iowa participated in the annual Iowa Wing conference celebrated in Fairfax , IA on March 28 to celebrate successes and set goals for 2009.

The conference was an opportunity for cadets and senior members to receive formal training in different areas such as leadership, operations, use of CAP information systems, and other topics oriented to reach organizational excellence.

“I have attended different Wing conferences, and this is one of the most professional and well organized that I have ever seen” said Gary Schneider, Director of Logistics, representing the Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters.

After the training sessions, members and their families attended a banquet and awards ceremony hosted by Col Ronald Scheitzach, Iowa Wing Commander. During the emotive ceremony, the Civil Air Patrol recognized:

Cadet of the Year 2008: Cadet Colonel Elizabeth Spoerl Dubuque Composite Squadron (not presented last year as we had no wing conference) ; Cadet of the Year 2009: Cadet Captain Christopher Oglesby, East Iowa Cadet Squadron ; Senior of the Year: Captain Leo Bertling, Cedar Rapids Senior Squadron ; Wing Staff Member of the Year: Captain Maureen Braddock, Legal Officer ; Chaplain of the Year: Ch Captain Ralph Cole, IAWG Chaplain ; Squadron Commander of the Year: Lt Col Glen Allen Thatcher-Chilcote, Des Moines Metro Cadet Squadron ; Flying Squadron of the Year: Cedar Rapids Senior Squadron ; Non-Flying Squadron of the Year: East Iowa Cadet Squadron ; Squadron of Merit 2009: Des Moines Metro ; Torch Award 2008: Col Ronald Scheitzach, Wing Commander ; Torch Award 2009: Captain Brad Oglesby, East Iowa Cadet Squadron .

Guaranty Bank in Fairfax provided their fine facilities for the conference and banquet making the occasion a success in addition to the content and quality of the presentations.
